Took a walk into old Riga yesterday teatime, took about 20 minutes, but as the rain had stopped it was quite pleasant. It is interesting seeing all the different building styles, a lot obviously precede the time of the Russian occupation but some bore the stamp of the communist states.
One that stood out was Costa, can you believe that, I did not know they were a world company. And before you say anything, no, the building does not lean over, that is my camera skills, or not!
Riga looks interesting with what looks like enough to occupy my mind for today before I move onto Lithuania in the morning. This is a statue that is in a main square in the town, I must find out what it represents.
On my travels I also found a donut shop, mmmmmn donuts! Treated myself to 2, chocolate and lemon if you want to know, and the cost 48 santimu, there are 100 santimu to the lati and a lati is worth 80pence, so 2 donuts for less that 40 pence, that's what I call value. I ate them in my room after brewing up a great cup of tea on my camping stove as there are no "makings" in my room.
I see on Robs blog that he is putting on some stunning photos of beautiful scenery, I'm afraid I cannot compete with scenic views as I have not seen a hill since England, the countryside is a flat as a flat thing pretending to be flat. I think I have about another 10 days before I see anything like a hill, and I will be down on the south border of Poland by then.
In the meantime, not to be outdone, here is a shot of a building?? that is just behind the hotel that I am stopping in. It appears that the started, but could not finish...I know all about that.
I stop in the best areas, who needs the South of France and Italy, jealous, not me!
Greetings Nick, Things can't be too bad if you have a Costa nearby and a donut shop as well - bet Rob hasn't got that! Hope the rain keeps off for you. The 'almost' building looks like somewhere Mondo Enduro would stay - and be glad of it :-)) Have a nice day today. Lots of love, Chris. xx
